Marking the centenary of the end of WW1

By way of marking the centenary of the end of the 1914-1918 world war, the art department worked in collaboration with the Technology department to create an installation for Remembrance day 2018. Year 9 art and photography students bought in photographs from home of family members who served either during WW1 or in a conflict since. For many families, this opened up poignant conversations about loved ones and the sacrifices that were made. Some of our students' photographs can be seen here. Inspired by contemporary artist Christian Boltanski who creates art about war, courage, loss and suffering, students used a photographic emulsion transfer process to create individual memorials. The installation is also lit by candlelight.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this thought-provoking installation: students, families and staff and particularly to the tech department.
