Complaints

The complaints procedure established by the Academy Trust follows DfE guidance and covers the school curriculum and related matters. The policy encourages parents in the first instance to approach the form tutor or class teacher in the school. You may then follow up this informal stage by contacting the DoPA or a senior member of staff. If you are still concerned you can write or contact the Headteacher. If necessary, if you remain concerned and unsatisfied you may wish to make a formal complaint to the Directors which you do by writing to the Clerk of Directors. Formal procedures exist to ensure your complaint is heard fairly.

If you are dissatisfied with this process you may contact the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA). The ESFA cannot assess/consider complaints about the decision of a complaints panel, they can however investigate the following areas:

  • Undue delay or non-compliance with an academy's own complaints procedure.
  • An academy's failure to comply with a duty imposed on it under its funding agreement with the Secretary of State
  • An academy's failure to comply with any other legal obligation, unless there is another organisation better placed to consider the matter as set out in the next section

For matters other than the curriculum (e.g. discipline, admission procedure) there are specific arrangements for appeals after informal approaches have been made to the Headteacher.

We welcome contact from parents at an early stage of any uncertainty or difficulty so that escalation of concern, worry or dissatisfaction can be avoided.
