The Wildern Music Academy offers high quality instrumental and vocal tuition during the school day and into the evening situated in the well-resourced practise rooms at Wildern School. There is a growing body of evidence that students who learn to play a musical instrument achieve more highly academically than those who do not play. At Wildern we wish for every child to learn to play a musical instrument and develop a lifelong love of Music.
Tuition is offered to students on the following instruments:
Keyboard Saxophone All Brass
Piano Guitar (Electric, bass and acoustic) Singing
Flute Percussion/ Drum Kit ‘Cello/ Double Bass
Clarinet Violin Bassoon/ Oboe
Instrumental lessons are given by either Hampshire Music Service Staff, Wildern Staff or by private teachers and are 20 minutes mostly on a pair/ small group basis.
Students are expected to make a reasonable contribution to school ensembles, at the request of the Music Department staff, attending rehearsals and performing in the appropriate concerts. The following ensembles are currently available:
WAVE Choir (Years 7-8) Orchestra Band Musicianship
WAVE Choir (Years 9-11) String Ensemble Percussion Group
Brass Band Ukulele Club Wildern Jazz
Stage Tech/ Music Tech Club Music Theory Club Year 8 Music Enrichment
Many children take graded exams/ Hampshire stages and Wildern School is often a centre for ABRSM and Trinity grade exams with students from the Wildern Music Academy regularly achieving a high rate of Merit and Distinction passes.
Wildern Junior Music Academy
The Wildern Junior Music Academy is the junior arm of our instrumental teaching providing instrumental and vocal lessons for primary age children in the local area. We currently offer lessons for the following instruments:
Piano Guitar (Electric, bass and acoustic)
Flute Drum Kit
Clarinet/ Saxophone Violin
Bassoon/ Oboe Singing
