‘Students have a curiosity for Science, a desire for knowledge and an excitement for how the world works through a 5 year linear curriculum’

All students throughout their 5 years at Wildern are taught by a dynamic team who aim to instil students with a thirst for knowledge and practical skills through the diverse curriculum of Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

KS3 Science

Students are able to develop their scientific knowledge and curiosity for the subject through both practical and content based lessons, which will prepare them for the KS4 Curriculum. Students follow the 10 AQA big ideas of Forces, Electromagnets, Energy, Waves, Matter, Reactions, Earth, Organisms, Ecosystem, Genes.

KS4 Science

Students continue to develop their scientific knowledge and curiosity for the subject through both practical and content-based lessons. Students study either AQA Separate Science or AQA Combined Science (Trilogy). In Combined Science students will study all three disciplines of Biology, Chemistry and Physics and receive two GCSEs at the end of year 11. For the Separate Science GCSEs students will study the same content as the combined GCSE but will complete additional content and practical which will result in three GCSEs at the end of year 11.

Extra Curricular

Throughout the year the department participate in a large number of extra curricular school trips to ensure students are provided with enrichment within the Science curriculum.

STEM club

Each week students are given the opportunity to use Science, Technology and Maths techniques not used during lessons and apply them to everyday challenges which include building bridges, making slime and cooking. The subjects run on a two-week rotation.

Runs every Tuesday from 3-4pm for Year 7 and 8 students.

Survival Club

Survival club offers a wide range of opportunities for students to get hands on with nature. We look after a section of forest on the school site as well as growing a range of crops, which we give to the school canteen to use in school meals. Throughout the year we join in with a number of exciting projects such as RHS Wisley young gardener competition.

Runs every Wednesday from 3-4pm for Year 7-9 students
