The 15th January was a fabulous celebration of the amazing individual musical talent that we have at Wildern.
The following students, nominated by the Music Department, competed in the local heat of the Rotary Young Musicians Competition:
Esme Thompsett - Violin
Sophie Nicholson - Flute
Sam Rowe - Voice
Elizabeth Addis - Trumpet
Leonardo Mattuecci - Piano
Ling Drover - Piano
Lucy McKeown - Voice
The competitors made the final decision very difficult for our judges Rebecca Burden, Alistair Gregory and Jon Prince, who deliberated for nearly half an hour before agreeing that the overall winner would be Sophie Nicholson.
Sophie will now go forward to the next round of the competition at Talbot Heath School, in Rothesay, Bournemouth.
Coordinated by the Community Focus Group who are an Interact group, this competition is supported by the Hedge End Breakfast Rotary Club, and proceeds from ticket sales and donations will be sent to the toilettwinning.org. We were delighted that the event raised enough to donate £60 to twin a toilet which will help those in desperate poverty to gain access to a proper latrine, clean water and the information that they need to be healthy.
The following members of the community focus group helped out on the evening, and helped to make it run smoothly;
