Update on Year 10 Careers Provision

Dear Parent/Carer

Update on Year 10 Careers Provision

It is with great sadness that due to the current situation, we have had to make the following changes to our planned Careers events for Year 10 this term; Experience of a Workplace visits and College Taster Days will not take place and we are postponing Practice Interviews to the Autumn term. We will confirm the new dates when we are able to do so.

With the current closure of many businesses until at least July and additional distancing measures in place, we feel that we cannot continue with Experience of a workplace visits this year. A number of businesses have contacted us already to retract their offer of a placement. We know many of your youngsters have worked very hard to set up their placements and will be sorely disappointed that they cannot go ahead as planned.

We still strongly believe that students should engage with the world of work and will support students who choose to take up placements during the school holidays, if this is a viable option. Due to the level of disruption to learning already this year, when students return to timetabled lessons, we will be focusing on direct teaching and supporting students to achieve their best, ensuring that this difficult time does not have a long-term impact upon them.

We have already heard from one local college that they have cancelled their college taster days and we are expecting others to follow suit. We will write to you after half-term with the details of local college open evenings and we would encourage your child to visit all the colleges they are interested in over the coming months.

We have been fortunate enough to secure an additional opportunity for students to access a course run by Eton College on interview skills. This is an online self-study course and the access details are attached to this letter.
